Quasi-no-go?
The bells have tolled at St.Denys, Ibstock for over 500 years. After a period of recent inactivity due to lack of ringers, the bells have been ringing again on a regular basis for weddings, church services and Friday evening practise sessions thanks to an enthusiastic band of local ringers, the majority of whom have learnt the art of campanology. The tower has received visits from Ibstock Cubs, Scouts and Guides who enthusiastically chimed the bells, and there are occasions held when anyone can come up and ‘have a ring’. A lot of hard work went into getting the bells ringing again and it will take a lot of hard work to keep them ringing in the years to come.
The largest bell in the tower, which strikes the time every hour, was cast and hung around the year 1500 by the medieval Seliok family bellfounders of Nottingham. The 3rd and 5th bells are both dated 1632; the Church Buildings Council has identified all 3 bells as being worthy of preservation.
